Since each opening in the City of Beaverton is unique, a separate application form needs to be completed for each opening. You can submit resumes, cover letters, or other documentation with your application.
Note: Resumes are not accepted in place of completed application forms.

The City of Beaverton is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of age, sex, marital status, race, color, creed, mental or physical disability, religion, national origin, familial status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or source of income in the admission or access to, or employment in, its programs or activities.
To learn more about the city’s commitment to providing fair and equal treatment of applicants and employees, please read the Beaverton Selection Statement.
Veterans’ Preference in Employment
Qualifying veterans and disabled veterans may obtain preference by submitting as verification of eligibility a copy of the Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty (DD Form 214 or 215) or a letter from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs indicating receipt of a non-service connected pension. The documentation must indicate honorable discharge from service. Disabled veterans must also submit a copy of their veteran’s disability preference letter from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, unless the information is included in the DD Form 214 or 215. Veterans’ Preference documentation must be submitted with your application.
The City of Beaverton will take the following steps in its hiring processes to comply with Oregon’s Veterans’ Preference law:
- The initial screening process will determine whether the candidate meets the minimum qualifications and any special qualifications for the position.
- If a veteran meets minimum qualifications (and any special qualifications, if applicable) and has submitted the proper veterans’ preference documentation, then the veteran will receive an interview.
- At every stage in the selection process, when the order of candidates is established, the city will add five preference points to a veteran’s score and ten preference points to a disabled veteran’s score.
- If a ranking system instead of a point system is used, the city will move a veteran up one placement in the ranking, and a disabled veteran up two placements in the ranking.
- Appropriate documentation of these required actions will be placed in the recruitment file.
Please note: Oregon’s Veterans’ Preference law does not require that veterans be hired, only that they receive preference and -- should they be equal to or better than the top candidate -- they then be appointed to the vacant position. Upon written request, the city is required to provide the reasons for a decision not to appoint the veteran.
For more information regarding Oregon’s Veterans’ Preference law, please refer to ORS §§ 408.225-408.237.

The City of Beaverton is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace free from the influence of illegal drugs. We believe employees have the right to work in a drug-free environment and to work with persons free from the effects of illegal drugs. A drug screening, which tests for current use of federally controlled substances, including, among others, marijuana which remains a schedule 1 controlled substance under federal law, may be required where it is legally permissible for the city to do so. Any offer of employment will be contingent upon the applicant passing a criminal background check. In addition, some positions may also require a pre-employment physical examination and test and/or a criminal background investigation.
The position for which you are applying involves a competitive selection process. Applicants whose backgrounds appear to most closely match the needs of the particular vacancies will be considered for the next step in the process.
The most competitive applicants for a particular vacancy will be interviewed by the hiring department, and a final selection will be made. Due to the extremely large number of applicants and the limited number of job opportunities, many applicants may not proceed to the interview phase.
A job application is an important reflection on you. The way in which you complete your application can make a difference in determining whether or not you are selected to be interviewed for a job. If you need an accommodation during the recruitment process, please notify a Human Resources Department representative. They will work with you to try to identify a reasonable accommodation that will not cause undue hardship to the city. Applications received by the city become the property of the City of Beaverton and cannot be returned.
