Characteristics: Crimson King holds its purple foliage until fall and grows more slowly than other Maples.

Negative Features: Occasionally susceptible to aphids and scale that can cause honeydew drip and sooty mold problems. Surface roots can cause problems with sidewalks. Deep colored foliage will tend to darken streets when used in mass plantings. Best used as entry features, highlights and in limited number.

Uses: Good for all street situations where room allows on arterial, collector and residential streets.

Comments: Crimson King grows slowly, but will become a medium sized shade tree in time. Royal Red Norway Maple is a good substitute for Crimson King.
