104 Crimson Sentry Norway Maple

Deep green canopy of a young Crimson Sentry Norway Maple.Facts About Crimson Sentry Norway Maple

Acer platanoides 'Crimson Sentry'

Native to: Europe, Turkey, Iran
Crown: Upright columnar
Height: 20 - 25 feet
Width: 12 feet
Growth Rate: Slow

Characteristics: This tree has a compact, irregular growth habit. It is more upright than the similar Crimson King, with brighter red spring foliage.

Negative Features: Occasionally susceptible to aphids and scale that can cause honeydew drip and sooty mole problems. Surface roots can cause problems with sidewalks, but it is not a severe problem with this tree. Deep colored foliage will tend to darken streets when used in mass plantings.

Uses: Good for narrow setbacks, underneath wires, cul-de-sacs and tight situations where there is little room on arterial, collector and residential streets. Best used for highlights, entry features and in limited quantities. This is a good choice when a shorter tree is necessary in order not to obscure a view.

Comments: Crimson Sentry is a good substitute tree for red-leafed Norway Maples that are planted under wires or in tight situations.
