Characteristics: This is a prehistoric tree that is related to a conifer but has leaves rather than needles. It has bright yellow fall color. This tree has good drought tolerance after reaching 15 feet and it withstands city rigors well.

Negative Features: In female trees the fleshy covering on the seed can be messy and have an unpleasant odor. Use male trees only.

Uses: Good for all street situations where room allows on arterial, collector and residential streets.

Comments: Ginkgo is the species from which there are many available named cultivars. Even though it grows slowly, it is a large tree, suitable for boulevards. Ginkgo is a tough tree, resistant to most insects and diseases. It adapts well to urban conditions.
