Characteristics: This tree exhibits ornamental spring catkins. Its clean, nice foliage turns yellow to purple in fall. It is disease and insect free and thrives in adverse conditions. It usually has a short trunk with bottom branches that touch the ground and nuts that are 1/2" to 5/8".

Negative Features: Some consider the fruit messy.

Uses: Good for all street situations where room allows on arterial, collector, and residential streets. Suitable for planting along boulevards.

Comments: Turkish Filbert is a good shade tree that is seldom planted and should grow well in Beaverton.
