Facts About Cumulus Serviceberry

Amelanchier laevis x grandiflora 'Cumulus'

Native to: Midwest and Eastern United States
Crown: Moderately columnar
Height: 25 feet
Width: 15 feet
Growth Rate: Fast

Characteristics: This tree exhibits white flowers in spring and red-orange foliage in fall. The fruit is red-purple and attracts birds. Its roots are not aggressive.

Negative Features: Low branching requires regular pruning to develop tree form and maintain an 8'-10' high canopy suitable for street tree use. This is a short lived tree with an urban life span of 20 years.

Uses: Good for narrow setbacks. Good for underneath wires, cul-de-sacs, and tight situations where there is little room on arterial, collector, and residential streets. Best used in limited quantity. This is a good choice when a shorter tree is necessary in order not to obscure a view.

Comments: Cumulus is a good, improved Serviceberry cultivar. This tree is effectively used along natural areas, wetlands, ponds, and drainage channels.
