Characteristics: This tree has small, showy clusters of spring flowers that develop winged seeds. Foliage is deep green turning bright yellow in the fall.

Negative Features: Occasionally susceptible to aphids and scale that can cause honeydew drip and sooty mold problems. Surface roots can cause problems with sidewalks.

Uses: Good for all street situations where room allows on arterial, collector, and residential streets. Suitable for planting along boulevards.

Comments: Emerald Queen is a good shade tree. This tree is planted along Fifth Street, east of Griffith Drive. It is a good substitute for Cavalier, #45, Cleveland, #47, and other green leafed, yellow fall colored maples.
