Acer ginnala 'Flame'

Native to: Manchuria, Northern China and Japan
Crown: Upright rounded
Height: 20 feet
Width: 20 feet
Growth Rate: Slow to moderate

Characteristics: This tree has clusters of small, fragrant yellowish spring flowers. Its foliage has a striking red fall color and it has bright red, winged fruit. It does well in the coldest areas of the west.

Negative Features: Low branching and multi-stemmed habit requires regular pruning to develop tree form and maintain an 8'-10' high canopy suitable for street tree use. Regular tip pruning will encourage a denser canopy.

Uses: Good for underneath wires, cul-de-sacs, and tight situations where there is little room on arterial, collector, and residential streets. Best used in limited quantity. This is a good choice when a shorter tree is necessary in order not to obscure a view.

Comments: Amur Maple is a good, small tree that needs regular pruning. The 'Flame' variety has brilliant fall color.
