39 English Hedge Maple

English Hedge Maple with late summer, green foliage.Facts About English Hedge Maple

Acer campestre

Native to: Europe and Western Asia
Crown: Oval to rounded
Height: 30 feet
Width: 30 feet
Growth Rate: Slow to moderate

Characteristics: This tree has yellow foliage in autumn. In winter its corky bark is striking. It is a low maintenance tree that adapts well to urban settings.

Negative Features: Low branching requires regular pruning to develop tree form and maintain and 8'-10' high canopy suitable for street tree use.

Uses: Good for underneath wires, cul-de-sacs, and tight situations where there is little room on arterial, collector, and residential streets. This is a good choice when a shorter tree is necessary in order not to obscure a view.

Comments: Queen Elizabeth is a new variety with a more consistently upright form.
