Characteristics: Foliage is purple when young, fading to bronze. Profusion has single, deep pink flowers and persistent 1/2" maroon fruit that attracts birds. Apple fruit is edible. It has generally good disease resistance.

Negative Features: Can be susceptible to powdery mildew, and is very susceptible to apple scab. This is a short-lived tree with an expected urban life span of 20 years. It needs well-drained soil and regular watering for best results. Small fruit can be messy. Crabapples as a group are similar to Cherries. See Comments: Afterglow Cherry Tree #2.

Uses: Good for underneath wires, cul-de-sacs and tight situations where there is little room on arterial, collector and residential streets. Good for entry features and highlights. Best used in limited quantity. This is a good choice when a shorter tree is necessary in order not to obscure a view.

Comments: Profusion is a good performing Crabapple. Crabapples grow best when cultivated.
