32 Flowering Ash

Portrait of Flowering Ash with late summer, light green foliage.Facts About Flowering Ash

Fraxinus ornus

Native to: Southern Europe and Asia Minor
Crown: Moderately oval
Height: 25 - 30 feet
Width: 20 - 30 feet
Growth Rate: Fast

Characteristics: Foliage turns soft shades of lavender and yellow in autumn. Displays clusters of fragrant white to greenish white flowers in spring.

Negative Features: Flowers can be messy. Seed clusters hang on until late winter unless removed. Low branching requires regular pruning to develop tree form and maintain and 8' - 10' high canopy suitable for street tree use.

Uses: Good for underneath wires, cul-de-sacs, and tight situations where there is little room on arterial, collector, and residential streets. This is a good choice when a shorter tree is necessary in order not to obscure a view.

Comments: Flowering Ash is a good, small tree for use in Beaverton.
