Growth Rate: Medium to fast

Characteristics: Dark green, heavily textured foliage turns yellow-orange to a long-lasting deep purple-red in the fall. This tree is seedless. It is easily transplanted and prefers well drained soil and full sun. It has moderate drought resistance.

Negative Features: Susceptible to leaf rust, leaf spots and cankers. May be borer-sensitive. Bark-splitting when young may be a problem. Does not tolerate heavy air pollution. Surface roots can cause problems with sidewalks.

Uses: Good for all street situations where room allows on arterial, collector, and residential streets. Suitable for planting along boulevards.

Comments: Autumn Purple Ash has outstanding fall color and is a good substitute for Autumn Applause, #28.
