Crown: Moderately pyramidal
Height: 40 - 60 feet

Growth Rate: Moderate, rapid once established

Characteristics: This tree has lustrous green foliage, exfoliating bark with variable color. In older trees, the bark flakes and curls in sheets.

Negative Features: Susceptible to leaf miner, aphids, and scale.

Uses: Good for all street situations where room allows on arterial, collector, and residential streets. Suitable for planting along boulevards.

Comments: River Birch is good for use along wetlands and in wet locations. It is resistant to bronze Birch borer.
