Membership: There are eleven members appointed by City Council. Nine members must be
City residents, while 2 at-large members may reside outside of the City.

Powers and Duties: The committee’s duties include representing the views of seniors
to the general community; providing review and comment to elected officials and decision makers
regarding public issues, projects and proposals which have a significant impact on the elderly;
educate the general public concerning issues affecting older persons through publication of
information and public forums; perform conciliatory services that do not conflict with the
functions of any other government agency or city department; make recommendations concerning
solutions to specific problems affecting senior citizens in the City; recommend to the City
Council action, policies, and legislation to be considered by state and local governments; and
make such reports to the City Council upon request.
Meetings: All members, including any alternates, are expected to attend all meetings.
All members should have an interest in and familiarity with issues and policies affecting the
senior community. All members are expected to be active participants in committee deliberations
in a public setting.
Materials/Activities: All members should read all of the materials related to or
required for their meetings. Members are also expected to volunteer time for the committee’s
various events and activities.
Time Commitment: All members should be willing to dedicate a few hours per month for
the meetings, as well as additional hours per year for the committee’s various events and activities.
