Come one. Come all. Bring your bikes and join your neighbors for the 2nd Annual Bike Beaverton community ride! Last year, more than 90 riders enjoyed the first-ever, family friendly pedal through the streets of Beaverton. This year, the Bicycle Advisory Committee is aiming to make this year’s event even bigger and better. (Yes, we’ll have a FREE ice cream social for the finishers!)
When: Sunday, August 2 (Mark your calendars now!)
The Beaverton Police Department (BPD) will kick things off with a safety Bike Rodeo for kids. While riding through an obstacle course, kids will have fun while learning maneuvering skills and how to become safe, confident and aware bike riders. Safety comes first, and we’ll have mechanics on hand from the Bike Gallery, Washington County Bicycle Transportation Coalition (WashCo BTC), and Frans Pauwels Community Bicycle Center to inspect your bike before the ride as well as folks from the Northwest Bicycle Safety Council to fit, inspect, and supply free helmets to those in need.
Led by Mayor Doyle, riders will depart on the six-mile family ride. The clearly marked route will wind through some of Beaverton’s quiet (and flat) neighborhood streets. Ride marshals will be along the route to offer encouragement and keep you on track. Beaverton’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will be available to provide first aid, if needed, and a support vehicle (SAG) will follow the riders along the route to pick up riders in need. Following your two-wheeled adventure, the ride will be capped off with a FREE ice-cream social, music, and other festivities. Restrooms at City Park will be open.
Helmets are required. Please bring your own water. For more information, contact Margaret Middleton at (503) 526-2424.
The Bicycle Advisory Committee is seeking volunteers to act as marshals (and cheerleaders) along the route as well as distributing ice cream at the finish. If you’d like to volunteer, please contact Barbara Chapnick at (503) 598-7866 or by email.
