Division Responsibilities

  • Administration
    • Coordinates and manages Public Works projects
    • Oversees the administrative functions of the Public Works Department (approximately 80 full-time employees)
  • Fleet Maintenance
  • Landscape Maintenance
    • Maintains 131 acres of land: City-owned property and rights of way
  • Storm Drainage Collection Systems Maintenance
    • Maintains 225 miles of underground pipe and 124 City-owned detention ponds in the City’s storm drainage system
    • Cleans the catch basins / creek grates and flushes and video scans the underground lines
    • Sweeps 883 miles of city, county, and state roads (except Highway 217) per an established street sweeping schedule
  • Street Maintenance
    • Maintains 221 miles of city streets and bridges and 13.99 miles of pedestrian paths
  • Traffic Signals & Streetlight Maintenance
  • Traffic Signs
    • Responsible for 17,299 city signs, including street name, regulatory, and pavement markings
  • Urban Forestry
    • Maintains 5,953 trees
    • Maintains the trees on city streets
    • Offers educational classes / materials related to arboriculture
    • Plants street trees in new development rights of way
    • Provides professional arboriculture consulting to citizens
  • Wastewater Collection Systems Maintenance
    • Maintains 1,446,226 lineal feet of sewer lines in the City’s sanitary sewer system - projects include flushing and video scanning the underground lines
