In 2011, the City purchased the block of Old Town property bound by 1st,
Lombard, 2nd, and Chapman. By November 2011, the City formed a
public-private partnership with Community Partners for Affordable
Housing (CPAH) and Roy Kim Development, Inc. to do two separate
developments on the site.
The Barcelona at Beaverton
CPAH's The Barcelona, located along the 2nd Street frontage, and has 47 affordable units on four floors. The Grand Opening was celebrated in fall of 2015.
The Barcelona at Beaverton provides active community space – including a ground-floor entry plaza – and resident areas such as a community room, an outdoor patio and solarium on the top floor. The unit mix includes studios, 1 and 2-bedroom apartments and will serve seniors, people with disabilities (eight of the units are fully accessible), and those with modest incomes.
The Barcelona project is designed and constructed to Green Communities standards and includes public art, raised planters, a living wall, and a transit shelter.

LaScala Apartment Homes
Development, Inc. (RKm) began construction of the 44 unit mixed-use
LaScala in the fall of 2015. LaScala will have four floors of
residential units, over one floor of 5,000 square foot commercial space
dedicated to micro-restaurants. The building fronts Lombard and 1st
Street directly north of The Barcelona.
RKm and CPAH are
successful Washington County area developers, serving their communities
through development and ownership over long periods of time.
